Sure, you get a bunch of InMails or emails sent to you but is it worth it to take a phone call with a recruiter?
If you’re actively looking, yes. Find a few that have some credibility. Folks from “Generic Staffing Co.” might be iffy, but it’s up to you. If you’re not looking, is it worth your time?
I say yes. Very much yes. Maybe they have a specific role in mind for you (that’s good, because it shows they know what you do and what might be a logical next move for you…)
The reason you want to get your basic info to a couple good recruiters (and I’m talking “hey, what’s your dream job? Let me go find it” type calls) is all about ***HOW WE AS RECRUITERS BEHAVE WHEN NEW JOB ORDERS COME OUR WAY.***
My 1st move is ALWAYS to look through my list of people I know. I’m organized as hell. If you’re a good Marketing Director, I’m almost certain to take a bunch of notes, know WHAT YOU WANT IN YOUR CAREER, and I’m calling you with hot new openings FIRST. I sure as heck don’t want to scan through resumes, go to the job boards or LI, have a bunch of 30 min intro calls (again). Especially when I know YOU and your goals NOW.
I’ve placed a TON of people this way. It’s all about networking. A quick recruiter call can take you places.
