Tell me about yourself

Tell me about yourself

“So tell me about yourself?”

Yeah, that’s a fun one isn’t it?  You’re 100% guaranteed to have that question asked when you’re in an interview or trying to find a new job, so you also 100% guaranteed need to nail it.

This one’s easy as heck for a couple reasons:

  1. You know it’s coming.
  2. You know yourself (hopefully) so you can tell your story well.
  3. You can prep for it until it’s perfect.

This isn’t really the time to go line by line over your resume.  Interviewers ask this as an easy icebreaker and something they can then riff off of later in the chat.  They want to find reasons to like you, so here’s where you give it to them.

Remember to keep it short.  I ramble (ask my old teammates, yikes), so this is an easy lesson… If you’re talking for more than 60 seconds, you’re boring.  For real.  You can enter the back & forth convo later, but keep it clear & concise for now.

Keep your intro speeches as on target to the subject as possible and highlight the accomplishments that will be valued most.  Then throw in some specific things that you’re most proud of with a “oh, and here’s one thing I’m really excited to tell you about” move.  Wrap it up with why you’re excited about a job like this.  Then stop talking.

Seriously, have some fun here too. Let some personality out.

are you ready?
